Hardware Requirements
Tilavon's kiosk mode runs entirely in a web browser, so you can use virtually any tablet or touchscreen device you already own. No proprietary hardware or special apps required.
Compatible Devices
Any iPad (6th generation or newer), Android tablet (8-inch screen or larger), Windows touchscreen device, or wall-mounted touchscreen monitor. We recommend a screen size of at least 10 inches for the best client experience.
Mounting & Placement
Position your kiosk near the salon entrance where clients naturally arrive. Use a tablet stand, wall mount, or countertop holder. Tilavon's kiosk interface automatically adjusts to portrait or landscape orientation.
Network Connection
A stable Wi-Fi connection is required for real-time check-in and queue updates. We recommend a dedicated Wi-Fi network for business devices to ensure consistent performance.
Pro Tip
Enable the tablet's guided access mode (iPad) or screen pinning (Android) to prevent clients from navigating away from the kiosk screen.
Setting Up Kiosk Mode
Activating kiosk mode takes just a few steps from your Tilavon owner portal. Once enabled, the device displays a streamlined client-facing interface.
Step 1: Open Settings
In your Tilavon dashboard, navigate to Settings > Devices > Kiosk. Click "Add Kiosk Device" to generate a unique pairing code.
Step 2: Pair the Device
On your tablet, open a web browser and go to kiosk.tilavon.app. Enter the pairing code displayed in your dashboard. The device will link to your salon automatically.
Step 3: Configure Display
Choose which services to display on the kiosk, set your welcome message, upload your salon logo, and select your preferred color scheme to match your branding.
Step 4: Enable Lockdown
Use your device's built-in kiosk or guided access mode to lock the browser to the Tilavon kiosk page. This prevents clients from accessing other apps or websites.
Self Check-In Flow
Clients with existing appointments can check in with a single tap, reducing front desk wait times and letting your staff focus on service preparation.
Client Lookup
When a client arrives, they tap "Check In" on the kiosk screen. They can search by name, phone number, or scan a QR code from their appointment confirmation. The system instantly finds their booking.
Appointment Confirmation
The kiosk displays the appointment details — service, technician, and scheduled time. The client taps "Confirm" to check in. Their technician receives an instant notification on their device.
Queue Position
After check-in, the client sees their position in the queue and estimated wait time. If their technician is running behind, the system provides a real-time update so expectations are set clearly.
Walk-In Registration
Walk-in clients get a seamless registration experience directly from the kiosk, capturing their information and adding them to the queue automatically.
New Client Registration
Walk-in clients tap "I'm a Walk-In" and enter their name and phone number. For returning clients, the system recognizes their phone number and pulls up their profile with service history.
Service Selection
The kiosk displays your service menu organized by category. Clients select the services they want, see estimated duration and pricing, and optionally request a specific technician.
Queue Placement
Once registered, the walk-in is added to your salon's turn queue. The kiosk shows their estimated wait time and queue position. Your front desk dashboard updates in real time.
Digital Waiver Signing
Collect required waivers and consent forms digitally through the kiosk, eliminating paper forms and ensuring compliance records are always accessible.
Setting Up Waivers
Navigate to Settings > Forms & Waivers in your dashboard. Create custom waivers using the built-in editor, or upload your existing waiver as a template. Assign waivers to specific services — for example, require a chemical treatment waiver for keratin services.
Client Signing Experience
When a client checks in for a service that requires a waiver, the kiosk automatically presents the form. The client reads the terms, signs with their finger on the touchscreen, and the signed document is stored in their client profile.
Record Storage
All signed waivers are stored securely in the client's digital profile. Access them anytime from the client detail page in your dashboard. Waivers include a timestamp, the client's signature, and the device used for signing.
Customizing the Kiosk Display
Make the kiosk feel like a natural extension of your salon's brand with customizable colors, logos, and messaging.
Branding Options
Upload your salon logo, choose a background color or image, set your welcome message text, and select a font style. The kiosk interface adapts to your choices while maintaining an intuitive layout.
Service Menu Display
Control which services and categories appear on the kiosk. Hide internal-only services, reorder categories to highlight popular options, and toggle service pricing visibility on or off.
Language Support
The kiosk supports multiple languages. Clients can switch languages with a single tap from the welcome screen. Configure available languages in Settings > Kiosk > Language Preferences.
Security & Lockdown Mode
Keep your kiosk device secure and dedicated to its purpose with built-in lockdown features and activity monitoring.
Guided Access (iPad)
On iPad, enable Guided Access in Settings > Accessibility > Guided Access. Triple-click the Home or Side button to lock the device to the Tilavon kiosk browser tab. Set a passcode that only staff members know.
Screen Pinning (Android)
On Android, go to Settings > Security > Screen Pinning and enable it. Open the Tilavon kiosk in Chrome, then pin the screen from the Recent Apps view. Require a PIN to unpin.
Auto-Refresh & Recovery
The kiosk automatically returns to the welcome screen after 60 seconds of inactivity. If the browser crashes or loses connection, it reconnects automatically when the network is restored.
Security Tip
Disable notifications on your kiosk device to prevent personal alerts or system messages from appearing over the kiosk interface.
Frequently Asked Questions
What hardware do I need for a kiosk?
Any tablet or touchscreen device works with Tilavon's kiosk mode. We recommend an iPad (6th generation+) or Android tablet with at least a 10-inch screen. Download the native app for the best experience, or use browser access as a backup.
Can clients check in themselves?
Yes. Clients with appointments can check in by searching their name, phone number, or scanning a QR code from their confirmation. The process takes about 10 seconds and immediately notifies the assigned technician.
How do I lock down the kiosk?
Use your device's built-in guided access (iPad) or screen pinning (Android) to lock the browser to the Tilavon kiosk page. This prevents clients from navigating away. Set a staff-only passcode to exit kiosk mode.
Can the kiosk collect waivers?
Absolutely. Create custom digital waivers in your Tilavon dashboard and assign them to specific services. When a client checks in for a service that requires a waiver, the kiosk automatically presents it for signature. Signed waivers are stored securely in the client's profile.
Does the kiosk work offline?
The kiosk requires an active internet connection for real-time check-in and queue updates. If the connection drops briefly, the kiosk will display a waiting screen and automatically reconnect when the network is restored. We recommend a reliable Wi-Fi connection for uninterrupted operation.
