Built for Salons That Rent Booths
Tilavon handles the unique needs of booth rental salons: independent contractor tracking, rent invoicing, and separate financial reporting.
Setting Up Booth Rental Mode
Enable booth rental and create profiles for independent contractors.
Configuring Rent Amounts
Set fixed rent with flexible payment schedules and automated reminders.
Booth Renter vs Employee
Understand how Tilavon handles the two compensation models differently.
Separate Revenue Tracking
Booth renter sales are tracked independently from salon employee revenue.
Setting Up Booth Rental Mode
Tilavon supports both traditional employee salons and booth rental models. You can even mix the two in a single location.
Enable Booth Rental
Go to Settings then Salon Configuration. Toggle on the Booth Rental Mode option. This unlocks booth-specific fields in staff profiles and adds rent tracking to your reports.
Create a Booth Renter Profile
Add a new staff member and set their compensation type to Booth Renter instead of Commission. This changes their profile to show rent settings instead of commission rates.
Set Rental Terms
Enter the rent amount, payment frequency (weekly, biweekly, or monthly), and start date. You can also add notes about the rental agreement for your records.
Configure Access Level
Booth renters get a Technician-level login by default. They can view their own schedule, manage their clients, and see their earnings. They cannot access salon-wide reports or other staff data.
Tip
If a booth renter leaves, deactivate their profile instead of deleting it. This preserves their historical data for tax reporting and lets you reactivate them if they return.
Configuring Rent Amounts
Rent configuration is straightforward. Set the amount and frequency, and Tilavon tracks everything from there.
Fixed Rent Amount
Enter the dollar amount the booth renter pays per period. For example, $250 per week or $900 per month. The amount is recorded on each billing cycle and appears in the booth renter's payment history.
Payment Frequency
Choose weekly, biweekly, or monthly billing. The frequency determines when Tilavon generates a new rent charge. You can set a different frequency for each booth renter.
Automated Reminders
Enable rent reminders to send the booth renter an email or push notification when a payment is due. Reminders go out 3 days before the due date by default. You can adjust the timing in Settings.
Booth Renter vs Employee
The distinction between booth renters and employees affects taxes, scheduling, and financial reporting. Tilavon keeps everything separated automatically.

Separate Revenue Tracking
Clear financial separation is essential for accurate books and tax compliance. Tilavon makes this automatic.
Independent Ledgers
Every transaction processed by a booth renter is tagged to their profile. Their sales, tips, and product revenue are tracked separately from your employee-generated income. This distinction flows through to every report.
Dashboard Overview
The owner dashboard shows a combined salon revenue figure and a separate breakdown for employee revenue versus booth renter revenue. This gives you a quick snapshot of how much of your total volume comes from each model.
Tip
When booth renters use your salon's payment terminal, the credit card processing fees are tracked and can be charged back to the renter if your agreement includes a processing fee pass-through.
Booth Renter Scheduling
Booth renters operate independently, but their schedule still needs to appear on your salon's master calendar for walk-in routing and online booking.
Self-Managed Schedules
Booth renters set their own working hours through the employee app. They choose which days and times they are available without needing owner approval. Changes take effect immediately on the booking calendar.
Salon-Wide Visibility
Even though booth renters control their own hours, the master calendar shows all active staff. This means walk-in clients can see who is available right now, and online booking shows the full list of technicians.
Supply Fee Tracking
Many salon owners provide supplies to booth renters and charge a fee. Tilavon helps you track and bill these charges transparently.
Track Supply Usage
Log supply purchases under the Supplies expense category and tag them as shared or renter-specific. Tilavon calculates the per-renter share based on the allocation method you choose.
Charge Back to Renters
Add a supply fee line item to each booth renter's rent invoice. The charge appears alongside their rent payment and is included in their payment history for clear record-keeping.
Include in Rent
Alternatively, bundle supply costs into the booth rent amount. This simplifies billing by using a single all-inclusive rent figure that covers the booth and shared supplies.
Booth Rental Reports
Tilavon provides purpose-built reports for salon owners who manage booth renters alongside or instead of employees.
Rent Collection Report
See a list of all booth renters with their rent status: paid, overdue, or upcoming. Filter by date range to review collection history. Export to CSV for your accountant.
Booth Occupancy
Track how many of your available booths are rented versus vacant. The occupancy rate helps you plan marketing for open booths and forecast rental income.
1099 Tax Summary
At year end, generate a report showing total rent collected from each booth renter. This data feeds into 1099-MISC preparation for independent contractor reporting.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between booth renters and employees?
Booth renters are independent contractors who pay you a fixed rent to use a station in your salon. They set their own prices, manage their own clients, and handle their own taxes. Employees work under your direction, follow your pricing, and you handle payroll and tax withholding.
Can booth renters manage their own clients?
Yes. Booth renters have their own client list within Tilavon. They can add clients, view appointment history, and send reminders. Their client data is separate from your salon's employee-based client records.
How is rent tracked?
Tilavon automatically generates rent charges on the schedule you configure, whether weekly, biweekly, or monthly. You can see outstanding balances, payment history, and send automated rent reminders to booth renters.
Can I mix employees and booth renters?
Absolutely. Tilavon supports hybrid salons where some staff are W-2 employees on commission and others are 1099 booth renters paying fixed rent. Each person's profile is configured independently with the correct compensation model.
How do booth renters process payments?
Booth renters can process payments through your salon's payment terminal, in which case Tilavon tracks their revenue separately, or they can use their own payment processor. Either way, their sales are recorded for rent tracking and reporting.
